Arizona is Ready for Some More Super Bowl Football

It has only been a couple of years since the last Super Bowl was played in Arizona. Now the NFL owners have given us another one – Super Bowl XLIX in 2015! Phoenix beat out Tampa, Florida for the honors and the expected economic injection into the local economy is greatly anticipated.

In 2008, when the Giants beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII – one of the most exciting Super Bowls ever and both Jay and Chris from TucsonGolf.com were in the stands in the University of Phoenix stadium – there was a reported $500+ million pumped into Arizona businesses. It’s estimated that 2015 will be even greater.

“The impact is in the multihundred millions of dollars, and that is significant value for any community,” said Marc Ganis, president of Chicago-based sports business consulting firm Sportscorp Ltd., and an observer of the league’s business side. “The Super Bowl also provides a positive target for a community to rally around. There are all sorts of activities — business, volunteer, political — that can be pointed to when they host the Super Bowl.”

This is a welcome boon to an area that has suffered greatly during the economic recession. Recently released US Census data listed Arizona as number 2 in the Nation (with Nevada at number 1) for growth of total housing units from 2000 to 2010. Unfortunately, after that type of growth and then the bust, there are higher rates of vacancy. But with a Super Bowl coming to town again, and more to come in the future, there’s a lot of hope in Arizona.

“Everyone pulled together throughout the Phoenix area to put together a terrific package we were able to present to the [NFL] owners,” Arizona Cardinals President Michael Bidwill said. “We are delighted.”

Who wouldn’t want to visit Arizona in February? The temperatures will be in the 60s, there will be bright blue skies and plenty of sunshine. There are world-class golf courses, high end shopping, gourmet restaurants, plenty of 4 and 5-star hotels – everything a City needs to host one of the most famous sporting events in the world. In fact, why wait for Super Bowl XLIX? Plan a trip to Arizona this winter – you won’t be disappointed!
